How it works
Wall area minus openings = net area. A single brick plus joint occupies (brickLength + joint) x (brickHeight + joint). Bricks = net area / unit area. Wastage is applied on top.
Tips
- Use the modular dimension (includes joint) for quick estimates.
- Add extra for half-bricks around openings and corners.
- Order all from one batch to avoid color differences.
Limitations
Assumes a single wythe (one-brick-thick) wall. Cavity or double-skin walls need double the count.
Frequently asked questions
How many standard bricks per square foot?
About 7 (with a modular 3-5/8 x 2-1/4 in brick and a 3/8 in joint). The calculator uses exact brick + joint dimensions, so your count is accurate for your chosen size.
Do openings matter?
Yes — enter door and window openings and the calculator subtracts them from the wall area.
What about waste?
5–10% is typical for cutting and breakage; the default is 10%.
