How it works
Posts = fence length / spacing, rounded up, plus 1 for the end. Rails = (posts − 1) x rails per section, converted to lineal material. Panels = length / panel width.
Tips
- Add a post at every corner and gate on top of the spacing count.
- Set corner posts deeper in concrete for rigidity.
- Count 8 ft at a time so cuts line up with rail stock.
Limitations
Terrain slope, posts in concrete quantity and specialized caps aren't included.
Frequently asked questions
How far apart should fence posts be?
8 ft on center is standard for wood; 6–8 ft for vinyl. The calculator uses 8 ft by default.
How many posts do I need for 150 ft?
At 8 ft spacing you need about 19–20 posts (including the corner). The calculator rounds up.
Does it handle corners and gates?
Gates are approximated within a materials note — add posts framing the gate width you choose.
