How it works
Total area = wall area + (optional) ceiling. Sheets = area / sheet area, rounded up, plus wastage. Studs = perimeter / spacing; screws ~ per sheet at 12 in spacing.
Tips
- Use 4x12 sheets for 9 ft ceilings to cut down joints.
- Order extra for the inevitable cut error.
- Butt joints are easier to hide with longer sheets.
Limitations
Corner and seam tape/compound quantities aren't estimated here.

How much drywall area does one 4x8 sheet cover?
32 sq ft. A 12x12 ft room (4 walls plus ceiling) needs about 17 sheets at 4x8 — the calculator computes your exact count.
Should I remove openings?
The calculator can subtract windows and doors, but many builders skip this because offcuts are rarely reusable. Choose your approach.
How is wastage handled?
About 10%, to cover cuts, butt joints and the occasional damaged sheet.
